When your decking project demands materials that must resist a wet environment and provide lasting beauty, turn to MoistureShield for water-resistant decking.
Whether you are building a pool deck, dock or marina, MoistureShield has what you need easily found in two distinct water-resistant product lines. Find out what each of these two lines has to offer, read testimonials, and get ready to install moisture-resistant decking for an incredible look and feel.
Two Distinct Constructions for Water-Resistance
Capped vs. Uncapped
- Capped heat-resistant composite decking with CoolDeck® Technology reduces heat absorption by up to 35%, compared to standard capped composites in a similar color. This decking remains cooler in the sun, which means bare feet (and pet paws) will have a more comfortable experience while roaming the deck. You can find this unique technology in Vision® and Meridian™ capped wood composite lines, as well as Stratos® composite enhanced PVC line.
- Uncapped slip-resistant, water-resistant composite decking can be found with MoistureShield’s composite decking products. As one of the best materials for pool patios and decks, this versatile decking works like real wood. Each board has a solid core, which ensures protection without a cap.
Where is Water-Resistant Decking Used?
With innovative qualities and durability, MoistureShield’s lines of water-resistant products are a popular choice. You will find projects incorporating weather-resistant decking in commercial or waterfront applications.
One such project is the Holloway Leaf project in Loudon County, Virginia. The project was for a homeowner, whose family wanted to spend leisure time fishing, swimming and dining by the pond. Vision® Capped Composite decking was used for a two-level hybrid deck/dock and swim platform that was built on a pond to meet the family’s needs. Because of the boards’ solid core construction, Holloway Company of Virginia chose this decking to complete the project. What made this project unique was the use of Vision® grooved boards and a few face fasteners around the perimeter. The Holloway crew used plugs made from the decking to cover the face fasteners for a seamless look.
Another place on the East Coast where MoistureShield decking was used is the Wild Dunes Resort Tennis Center upgrade in Charleston, South Carolina. Vantage™ Decking was chosen for the resort’s boardwalk system, as well as for the bleachers next to the Tennis Center’s main court.
“It turned out great,” said Joel Krueger, owner of Krueger Construction in Summerville, SC. “Everyone loved the look, feel and comfort of the new bleachers, as well as the deck. The Wild Dunes clients loved the Vantage™ composite decking and Cape Cod Gray color so much that they decided to use the same decking to upgrade the resort’s luxury boardwalk,” he added.
Further south, CoolDeck® Technology helped HGTV Designer, Chip Wade, complete the renovation of his lakeside cabin in Lake Sinclair, Georgia. For the Misty Mill project, he used MoistureShield Vision® to help create a more comfortable environment for his family on the hottest of summer days. Learn why Chip decided to use this low-maintenance composite decking to replace 1,000 square feet of porches at “Behind the Design: Renovating the Outdoor Spaces of Misty Mill.”
MoistureShield has a far reach. In Pinellas County Florida, Vantage™ decking was used for the Florida Boardwalk and Pier in Wall Springs Park. Offering long-term durability and reduced maintenance, engineers chose to go with Vantage™ Decking for the reconstruction project. This included the replacement of decking for a fishing pier, as well as for the boardwalks surrounding the observation tower that oversees the Gulf of Mexico.
With over 30 years in the decking industry, MoistureShield is known for providing products that are built to last and able to withstand the elements.
Water-Resistant Decking for Pools, Docks & Marinas
When it comes to building pool decks, docks, and decks for marinas, MoistureShield water-resistant decking gives you an incredible advantage through its design.
Every one of MoistureShield’s wood-plastic composite boards features a solid core with an impermeable barrier that resists moisture, rot, insects and other harmful elements. Since the boards are engineered with wood fibers individually encapsulated in plastic, their integrity is maintained, even when they are cut. This gives you more flexibility when it comes to designing decks.
You will find that MoistureShield is the only manufacturer in the industry offering composite boards that can be installed on the ground, in the ground or underwater without any structural performance issues. This makes them ideal for building marinas and docks. Solid core composite decking is available in MoistureShield’s wood-plastic composite boards (Vision™, Meridian™, Elevate™, Vantage™). Both Vision and Vantage offer a 2x marine grade offering for 24" span, while Stratos (enhanced PVC) spans 24" with a 1" profile. These durable boards are reliable and require low maintenance. The wood-plastic composite boards (Vision, Meridian, Elevate and Vantage) are made from 95% recycled content.
Composite Decking Comparisons
The type of composite decking you will need depends on the type of project on which you are working. We’ll take a deeper dive into the specifics of each, so you’ll know which product works best for what you want to accomplish.
Vision® Marine Grade 2x
While Standard Vision® can be used around pools, the option of Vision® Marine Grade 2x provides composite decking designed specifically for pool and marine grade applications, where a greater or higher load capacity is needed. This stylish water-resistant decking features CoolDeck® Technology that reduces heat absorption by 35%, as compared to standard capped composites in a similar color.
CoolDeck® Technology compared to standard capped composites
With incredible durability, you will find that this decking is fade resistant and does not swell or require maintenance like staining and sealing. In addition, DiamondDefense™ technology features liquid polymer coating to help you prevent damage from scratching and impact. All these features add up to a more durable deck that saves you both time and money long term.
How confident are we in this product? MoistureShield backs its Vision® line up with a 50-year transferable structural warranty and a 50-year limited fade and stain warranty, guaranteeing that you’ll enjoy long-lasting performance for years to come.
Vantage™ Marine Grade 2x
The type of composite decking designed specifically for marine applications, where greater span or load capacity is needed (including boat docks and marinas), is called Vantage™ Marine Grade 2x. You will be impressed with its excellent slip resistance and minimal maintenance. Unlike traditional wood decking, the boards are made with self-healing properties that minimize the appearance of wearing and scratching, which can happen over time. Another benefit is that you will not have to paint or seal it, which saves you time and money.
Featuring a solid core manufacturing process, these boards repel moisture, so you will not have to worry about them rotting and warping. Using the same tools, you would for a wood deck, you can cut and rip Vantage™ boards, which helps you save on the cost of installation.
This decking comes with a 50-year transferable structural warranty, which also provides you with peace of mind. One thing to keep in mind is that VantageTM is preferred by contractors for commercial projects due to its price value and ability to weather over time; however, most homeowners prefer a capped option that features a fade and stain warranty.
