In 1988, the Brooks family founded Advanced Environmental Recycling Technology when they discovered an eco-friendly way to create high-quality, non-toxic building components using reclaimed fibers and recycled plastics. Since then, A.E.R.T. has further developed and patented its proprietary waste plastics reclamation technologies which allow it to recover waste plastics from the by-product of other recycling operations, as well as from post-consumer and post-industrial waste streams. These efforts include A.E.R.T.’s development of polyethylene film recycling technology in conjunction with Dow Chemical Company.
A.E.R.T. introduced the MoistureShield® brand of door rails, door subsills, and windowsills. These highly functional, precision components have been incorporated into millions of doors and windows in many of the nation’s most prestigious homes by manufacturers like Therma Tru, Crestline, Vetter, Premdor and many others.
A.E.R.T. continued its legacy in the green building arena with its decking, railing and fencing products. In 1992, A.E.R.T. created LifeCycle® Decking systems, followed by the introduction of LifeCycle Fencing. In 2005, MoistureShield® Decking was developed for the professional building market. Both MoistureShield and LifeCycle are manufactured with A.E.R.T.’s patented process and use a 50/50 blend of recycled wood fibers and plastics. The newest decking line, the Juniper Collection, is an organic Cedar composite made from reclaimed heartwood Juniper fibers. All MoistureShield products meet LEED criteria for Recycled Materials under its Type II Environmental Claim.
A.E.R.T. has built its business on making superior products with lower environmental impacts and using recycled materials and has earned national recognition for its endeavors. In 1995, Texas Governor, George W. Bush appointed Joe G. Brooks, Chairman of the Board for A.E.R.T., to the Clean Texas 2000 Board. In recognition of the advancements that A.E.R.T. had made in recycling technology and market development for recycled products, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded A.E.R.T.’s Junction, Texas manufacturing facility with the U.S. EPA, Region 6 Partnership for Environmental Excellence Award. A.E.R.T.’s purchase of recycled plastics supports many local, regional and national plastic recycling programs. Use of recycled content lowers overall lifecycle cost, saves energy, reduces greenhouse gases, reduces waste, conserves resources for the future and creates jobs.
The Brooks family is committed to offering long-lasting, earth-friendly products for future generations of green living.
